RE: Wekiwa Springs SP

Hey Russ, If you ever want to make a cart for the kayak for easy hauling at campgrounds, here is a link for one design.
http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/articles_view.asp?Kayak_Articles=38
The carts do come in handy when there is a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the water.
Have fun

RE: Lake Kissimmee SP

Howdy Russ,
Thanks for asking, we did fine, although neighbors around the corner had the carport and utility room flooded. Parts of our yard flooded (after 3 days of nonstop rain) and the stormdrain by the front corner was surcharged and backed up for the first time I can recall. If I didn't have the kayaks cabled down for the storm, I could have paddled throughout Indialantic. Once the rain quit, the stormdrain system was able to remove 90 % of the standing water, but due to some poor road grading, puddles remained for a few days. We were lucky, some of the neighborhoods on the mainland are still flooded.I had most of the week off due to flooding of many streets.
We are looking forward to checking out Lake Kissimmee SP. Judging from the sat shots there must be a lot of tree cover for the sites. I'll let you know what we think when we return next week.
How was FW? I have not been there in years, but want to take the DW and the DS (who turns 6 this weekend).
Regards
Randy

RE: Lake Kissimmee SP

Have fun Jo, just be careful if the water level and velocity is up. We have not been to that spring yet, but did the Juniper Spring run several years ago. I'm going to leave the kayaks at home this time and take the bikes.

Lake Kissimmee SP

Afternoon All,
We will be heading off to Lake Kissimmee State Park Saturday Morning and was wondering if any RVnet folks will be there. We had record rainfall here in Brevard County (over 2 feet in our neighborhood)from the Tropical Storm that decided to sit on top of us for way too long, but things are drying out and I can open the PUP tomorrow to turn on the fridge and swap out the radio for a sweet new Pioneer cd player.
Anyone heading to Central Florida may want to touch base with the campground to check on conditions...rivers and streams are extremely high. C-54 is currently draining 1 Billion gallons per day into the Indian River Lagoon via the Sebastian River to ease the raising level of the St. Johns River system and we still see reports of houses along the rivers with floodwaters lapping the back doors.

RE: long distance dealer

I had a great price from Peco on a Starcraft 3606 and was considering going up to Ga to buy. I decided to ask various FL dealers if they would match the price and ended up buying local for a better deal. The bottom line, it does not hurt to ask. Let the local dealer know that you would prefer to put the money in the 'local' economy and are serious about buying.
Good luck

RE: Where's He Ruide?

God Speed the recovery Ruide. I've always enjoyed your posts. Since you can't get out right now, I'd like to invite all to post 1 picture of a recent camp experience so He Ruide can still enjoy the great outdoors. I'll try to post a pic this weekend.
Take care

RE: Rollin up the ground cover

I used to use a piece of marine carpet (obtained for a really great price). It would hold water like no tomorrow. Now I use an awning mat bought online. It does not absorb water and cleans quickly. You can sweep, shake and fold up for storage and if sandy/wet place in a large trash bag to keep things clean and dry.

RE: Ford PSD or GMC Duramax which one?

We have an 08 F-250 4x4 Crewcab PSD with the regular bed and love it. If you go with an earlier model you will definately get better mpgs due to the new emmission standards.

RE: Disney/Orlando Area

Fort Summit KOA is on I-4 fairly close to Disney. They have shuttle vans that go to Disney in the am and return at 5:00 and again at 10:00 if you want to avoid driving and the parking fee. One warning...they don't like strollers and tried to prevent us from taking one because it would take up room for a passenger (even though there was room).
Good luck, we had a blast and plan on returning and staying at FW the next time if possible.

RE: Looks like another one might be ready to bite the dust!

Perhaps it is time for a sticky to identify the various manufacturers that have ceased production or are in financial straits. I myself don't have the info, but it would be nice for someone researching to know that there may not be a warranty or support for a new trailer.

RE: Want to buy popup

Welcome aboard!
The slide out dinnette is a great feature, but typically only seen on the larger units. When it comes to front storage, some models have a storage bin or trunk in front and some have a platform suitable for bikes and firewood or quads. THere are many reputable brands with a variety of floorplans. If you are looking for a used one, the warranty and dealer proximity will probably not be a consideration, but if you decide to go for a new one, consider what brands are carried by dealers nearby in case you need warranty work done.
Take some time to visit local dealers and look at everything they have on the lot. Go through the camper like you are preparing to go on a trip and imagine how it would feel in use. Are the beds comfy? Is there enough room at the table for a game or meals if the weather keeps you in? Do you need ac or a toilet for late night use?
We spent hours going through inventory at a bunch of dealers over the course of 6 months before deciding what best suited our needs. We have a Starcraft and love it, but that is not to say Fleetwood or Jayco are not just as good.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks a bunch! We went to Myrtle Beach a few years ago and boy oh boy was that drive from I-95 to the SP long. If we go again I'll consider your route.

RE: Portable Ice Makers

Once in a while an ice 'tube' (can't really call it a cube now can I?) will get hung up on the stainless temperature sensor when the tray is only half full. When the ice makes contact with the sensor, it will shut down. Pinching or holding the metal pin until the red light goes off definately gets the machine working a lot quicker than letting it warm up by itself.
These portable units are great, they outproduce the icemaker in the fridge hands down and the ice lasts longer than the bagged ice available for sale.

RE: 2008 Ford diesel - low MPG?

I have an 08 F250 4x4 crew cab PSD. It is a rugged, heavy truck (over 8,000 lbs empty). I get around 13mpg around town. When towing a 3,000 lb PUP with racks on the truck and a pair of kayaks I can get 16 mpg if going 55-60, 13 mpg if going 70. Overall it is a great truck, just wish it had better mpgs.

RE: My New Accessory Really SUCKS!!!!

I bought a shark years ago for cleaning the truck and it stays in the camper now. One thing about camping in Florida....you never get away from sand and it gets everywhere so a vac a day helps keeps the feet cleaner and sand out of the beds.

RE: Window Water Spots

I've been told that vinegar was an effective cleaner for waterspots.
Hard water can definately be a problem, and groundwater (sprinklers) can wreak havoc on a finish. If at all possible, try and prevent water spotting before it can etch the paint by not washing in the sun and drying promptly when washing. A good polish and wax/sealant on the finish will help the water sheet off.
A detailing forum with a lot of great info is at www.autopia.net
Good luck
